・Mr. Yasuji Fukuda・


  Born on August 6th, 1925.

  On the day an atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima, August 6th, 1945, 20 year-old Mr. Fukuda was working at Akatsuki troup which placed in Ujina 4.5km far from the point of an explosion. It was when he finished the morning roll call, gymnastics and was given to explain his fatigue duty. He didn't get serious injury, fortunately, he joined to a relief convey A-bombed and gadly burned citizens (mostly they were junior high school students) from Ujina Sea Port to Ninoshima Island 1,000 persons per a day.

  In 1987, he contributed to a reader's columns, Koe, of Asahi Newspaper w hich titled "A-bombed hackberry, strygglin". It was apeared on August 5th's paper and this made Mr. Gennnosuke Nagasaki wite a picture book, then the book made the hackberry tree well known through Japan.

  Now, living in Ujina, South part of Hiroshima city.

  He said, " The A-bombed hackberry might be said that it is a substitute for the victims who died young. In place of those who died young with big future dreams, it is my turn to transmit to younger generation and has been assiduous in protecting the A-bombed hackberry.

  Being pronounced its death, Mr.Fukuda taked care of the hackberry Jr. , manages to make a monuments of the A-bombed hackberry, and hands down a story of the tree to next generation.
